Introduction
The Curriculum objective of Castlegreen is to provide a broad, relevant and motivating curriculum, which meets the needs of individual students.
 
Key Stage 3 (Y7-9)
The schools curriculum is designed in accordance with the National Curriculum. Subjects taught include:-
English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, MFL, Geography, History, Art, PE, Music, ICT, RE, Citizenship, Health Education.

 

Key Stage 4 (Y10 & 11)
Key Stage four students are taught National Curriculum subjects with the addition of an options system for 8% of their timetable in Year 10 and 16% of their timetable in Year 11.

Year 10 may choose one options each term from four subjects:-
Horticulture, Enterprise, Food Preparation, JSL Award.

Year 11 have two option choices, one each from two blocks of four subjects:-
Block 1 - Music, Retail, Child Development, Horticulture
Block 2 - Hairdressing, Enterprise, JSL Award, Food Preparation

Careers and ASDAN courses are also delivered in KS4.
 
Year 12
Students who choose to stay at Castlegreen for an additional year work towards Level 1 qualifications and prepare for the next step of their education. For the majority of their time they work with one teacher working towards ASDAN CoPE Level 1, OCR CLAiT Level 1 and Adult Literacy and Numeracy Level 1. They also work with other specialist teachers towards Childcare or Motor Vehicle Maintenance. They will also work towards Duke of Edinburgh's Award Scheme Bronze. To prepare for their next step they work very closely with the City of Sunderland College on a transition programme.
