CURRICULUM

CORE SUBJECTS
The curriculum at Park Hill is a carefully organised and structured programme covering all the traditional subjects: English, Mathematics, Science, Technology, History, Geography, Scripture, Art and Craft, and French.

The classes at Park Hill are small, ensuring that all children receive individual attention, allowing them to attain their own individual level of capability.

Presentation of lessons is as carefully considered as the content. All the staff at Park Hill are committed to making lessons enjoyable and bringing out the best in each child. Independent as well as class work is encouraged. Therefore we set homework and all pupils are issued with a homework diary. The workload is tailored to the child’s age and ability. We ask parents to ensure that the appropriate amount of time is made available for this important contribution to their child’s development.

ADDITIONAL SUBJECTS
INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY
At Park Hill, computer studies are taught from Kindergarten onwards. The school is proud to announce that we have a new computer suite. The facility boasts the latest technology and software available and it has proved a great hit with the children. All of the children have access to the Internet. They are taught to search, identify and extract information in a sensible, safe and meaningful way so that they are competent to deal with any project work given to them at senior school level. Park Hill children will be taught to integrate the use of technology in a way that will make them all feel confient and proud.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Physical fitness is encouraged at Park Hill and recognised as being an important part of the school’s curriculum. A Park Hill child enjoys a variety of sports including tennis, football, athletics, hockey, netball and swimming.

DRAMA AND MUSIC
Participation in Assemblies, drama and music play an important part in the life of the school. Concerts, class music, music appreciation, composition and theory and singing lessons are all part of the timetable. There are options for tuition in piano, string and wind instruments from the age of six. The Drama Club is extremely popular and meets after school for children of Kindergarten age upwards.

FRENCH
School Visits and Trips - The school has a close association with the Chateau de la Baudonniere in Normandy. Once a year the pupils of Form III spend a week at the chateau learning about the culture, food and lifestyle of the French people whilst improving their French language skills. Classroom lessons are interspersed with various mental and physical activities and visits to local places of interest.

The Parcours de Sante is one of the most popular activities - seemingly the muddier the participants end up, the more they feel they have achieved. The favourite outing of the week last year was to a nearby goats farm where the children scampered in the early autumn sunshine amongst the residents! It is a working farm where we were also able to witness the process of making goats cheese. Other trips have been to the Mont St Michel, a market and the copper museum in Villedieu-les-Poeles.

For information about other school trips, please refer to the 'School Events' section of this website; you will be able to view past and future trips, including visits to theatres and museums.

DANCE
Ballet and modern dance can be taken as extra curricular lessons. Ballet takes place on Friday at lunch time and Modern Dance after school on Thursdays.

FRENCH AND DRAMA CLUBS
French club takes place on a Monday and Drama Club takes place on a Wednesday; both after school.
